Our Uniform & Code of Conduct

As an outstanding academy, we take great pride in the appearance and behaviour of our students. We ask that all members of our community join us in creating a respectful and conducive learning environment. Fostering pride, high standards, and positive behaviour.

CODE OF CONDUCT

We are committed to high standards in all we do and expect all students to show respect for staff, each other and themselves. In practice, this means:

  • Developing empathy and trying to see different points of view
  • Communicating calmly and clearly
  • Helping to keep the classroom environment a place for positive learning
  • Helping to make the school a pleasant environment
  • Moving about sensibly and co-operatively
  • Remembering that they represent the school whenever in uniform
  • Completing all work to the best of their ability
  • Not lowering their standards

OUR UNIFORM

All students at Redhill, from Year 7 to Year 11, wear uniforms. The wearing of a uniform makes an important contribution to the tone and reputation of our academy. We like students to come here looking smart, business-like and ready to work. Wearing a uniform also solves the problem of what to wear!

Black Blazer

Black school blazer with school badge and House colours (Year 7 students will be given their house badge colour on their first day).

Black Trousers

Black Redhill Academy Logo Trousers only (Just Schoolwear).

Black Skirt

Black Redhill Academy Logo Skirt only (Just Schoolwear).

School Jumper

Only the official school jumper (black, V-neck with red braiding) may be worn.

Plain White Shirt**

Plain white shirt with a collar and top button appropriate for use with a school tie. Shirts must be tucked in at all times with the top button done up. Shirts missing top buttons are not acceptable.

Ankle Socks

Grey, black or white ankle socks. Knee-high or over-the-knee socks are not permitted.

Tights

Plain grey, black or neutral tights.

Plain Black Shoes

Boots, trainers or trainer-like shoes should not be worn.

Plain Colour Outdoor Coat*

Students may wear plain coats or jackets.

Jewellery

Jewellery can be a safety hazard, and it gets lost easily. Therefore, students may wear one pair of ear-studs and one discreet nose stud. Any other visible piercing is not permitted. Students are also not allowed to wear rings, bracelets or necklaces.

*Hoodies, tracksuit tops or sports coats with logos are not allowed. In addition, fashion coats such as leather, denim, fur effect jackets, or body-warmers are also not permitted.

**Soft collared sports shirts are not acceptable, i.e. polo shirts. No t-shirts are to be worn. There should be no badges or motifs on shirts.

STUDENTS' APPEARANCE

Hairstyles

We expect hairstyles to be neat, tidy and not extreme. Tightly shaven hair, tramlines or brightly-coloured and unnatural dyes are not permitted, and students should not have lines shaved into their eyebrows. For student safety, long hair must be tied back during P.E. lessons.

Headwear*

Headwear worn for religious reasons must be plain black.

Hair accessories

Hairbands, bows and other accessories should be black and discrete.

Make-up/nails

Make-Up (including drawn-on eyebrows, false nails & nail varnish) is not allowed. Nails should be short.

*Baseball caps are not permitted in school or on school premises.

If you are unclear regarding any of these expectations, please don't hesitate to contact your son or daughter's Head of House for further information.

UNIFORM SUPPLIERS

Uniform Recycling with The Children's Society

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with The Children’s Society to supply our community with used school uniforms.

We are calling all students and parents to bring any unwanted uniforms to their tutor group over the coming weeks. There is also a donation drop-off at The Children’s Society Shop in Arnold Town Centre. Address: 99 Front St, Arnold, Nottingham NG5 7EB.

Rather than send old uniforms to landfills, The Children’s Society sorts and cleans donations and will then stock Redhill Academy uniforms at key points during the school year. The uniforms will be selling for a good cause and at less than 1/3 of the retail price with any donations not meeting the required standard being recycled – so if in doubt, donate it!

This initiative continues our Academy’s hard work over the last five years to improve sustainability throughout the school, with LED lighting, new double glazing, biomass boilers and recycling points across the site!

Donating school uniforms to The Children’s Society will help our environment whilst increasing the proceeds of this worthwhile cause and giving parents a low-cost alternative for uniforms.

You can learn more about the great work taking place at The Children’s Society here.
